Brussels Philharmonic plays music with Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1

What happens when the famous symphonic orchestra meets innovative technologies? There is a musical revolution! The Brussels Philharmonic was the first orchestra in the world to replace traditional note paper with Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1 tablets. This extraordinary collaboration started as part of the world premiere in the center of Brussels. Art, craftsmanship and technology combined in an unprecedented format.

Since the nineteenth century, the principles of the symphony orchestra workflow have remained virtually unchanged. Just think: before the concert, workers must distribute scores (musical notation notes) to each of the more than a hundred orchestra musicians. It takes a lot of time and hard work with the papers. It goes without saying that these documents are carefully stored in special libraries for further use. For a couple of centuries, these archives have grown many times and began to occupy quite a lot of space. In general, the storage of scores translates into a complex, time-consuming and environmentally unsustainable process.

That is why the orchestra of the Brussels Philharmonic, known for its love of innovation, began to look for a solution to optimize work with musical scores. Ultimately, the search led them to the door of NeoScores, a young Belgian company that develops software for working with orchestras. In conjunction with GALAXY Note 10.1, the world premiere of the Philharmonic has evolved from just musical to musical and technological.

And so, the Brussels Philharmonic was the first orchestra in the world to replace paper scores with tablets. Each of the one hundred musicians had a copy of GALAXY Note 10.1 with pre-installed software from NeoScores. The functionality of the tablet, coupled with the S Pen, allows you to change notes on the go, share fragments of scores with the conductor and fellow musicians. You can flip through the score with a flick of your finger, which is undoubtedly more convenient than turning paper sheets. Moreover, now there is no need to search through the musical archives every time in search of the scores of a particular piece of music: the entire repertoire required by the orchestra is already in the tablet.

All this not only significantly increases the efficiency of the orchestra, but also helps to reduce the cost of paper. Thanks to the use of GALAXY Note 10.1, the Brussels Philharmonic can now save a huge amount of paper worth about € 25,000! This evolution also provides comfort to the musicians themselves: all the scores fit into a 600-gram tablet that they can carry with them anywhere. From now on, the Brussels Philharmonic is traveling on the lung.

But this is not the only advantage that the orchestra provides for cooperation with Samsung. Until now, the staff serving the orchestra spent several hours a day preparing and copying sheet music. Now this process has become much more efficient and saves their valuable time, which they can use to optimize the daily activities of the orchestra and work on new progressive projects. Result? Better trained musicians, and higher quality orchestra work. Another plus is that the Brussels Philharmonic now has the largest digital archive of scores in the history of music. This means that henceforth it is possible not to worry about the heritage of classical music.
