ITU will not allow states to control the Internet?

The conference of the International Telecommunication Union, which received scandalous fame a couple of weeks ago, begins today in Dubai. Attention to this organization, which is part of the UN, turned out to be riveted after a loud statement by Google, which reported that ITU is preparing to adopt a resolution that would legitimize the actions of some states to control the national segments of the Internet.

Despite the fact that the conference is being held in private, some information about the discussion has already been leaked to the press. So, referring to its own sources, Gazeta.Ru reports that Russia is ready to abandon its position aimed at supporting the control of the Network and can only rely on the adoption of the softest and least significant proposals. Thus, only China and some Arab countries will remain among the influential supporters of the restrictions. However, in these states, control over the Internet has long existed. The US and the European Union, as well as many network organizations, strongly oppose the introduction of restrictions.
