American media corporations have reached an agreement with the file-sharing network operator Kazaa to resolve the conflict. Kazaa is one of the most famous P2P networks in the world, through which terabytes of pirated content were distributed. Under the new
agreement , the owner of the service, Sharman Networks, will pay a total of $ 115 million to four music labels (Universal Music, Sony BMG, EMI and Warner Music), after which Kazaa becomes a legal file-sharing service. The terms of the contract with representatives of the film industry (association MPAA) are still unknown.
The first question that an outside observer may have is: where does the money from Sharman Networks (a small company registered on the island of Vanuatu) come from? After all, the file sharing service did not bring any profit. To answer this question, you need to know the name of the founder of the service Kazaa, who in 2002 sold his startup company Sharman Networks, and has now been called by the co-respondent in the legal process. His name is Niklas Zennstrom, and after Kazaa he founded another Skype startup, which was sold to eBay Corporation for $ 2.6 billion.
