Virtual day Cisco Expo 2012

From November 20 to November 22, 2012, a significant event took place in Moscow - the thirteenth conference of Cisco Expo. This is one of the most exciting IT events, which gathers thousands of participants from all regions of the country. More than a hundred different reports were read at the conference, dozens of sessions and presentations on modern network technologies and communications were held. The range of conference topics was very wide: corporate network infrastructure, security, wireless networks, data centers and virtualization, unified communications, newsgroups, solutions for providers and much more.

On the eve of the conference, November 19, Cisco also held a “Virtual Day”, which was held in an online format using Cisco WebEx. During the day, several reports were read on various topics that anyone could connect to. One of the sessions was conducted by a teacher at the Softline training center. The topic of the speech is “Cisco routers”. In the hourly report, an attempt was made to cover the range of routers that Cisco manufactures and describe their key features. In this article you can find a summary of this report.

Cisco company produces various models of routers intended for all market segments: home office and branches, large companies, providers. Most manufactured routers fall into the Integrated Services Routers category. This is more than just routers. In addition to the classic functionality, you get additional integrated features. For example, a switch is integrated into all router models, allowing you to connect 4 or more client devices (depending on the model). Switch ports can support Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology, i.e. power supply via Ethernet cable. All routers in this series have security features: building different types of VPN tunnels, such as DMVPN and GET-VPN. You can protect your network using Cisco technologies such as IOS Firewall, Zone-based Firewall. Routers can perform content filtering, provide intrusion prevention system functionality, and even provide anti-virus protection. And many of these functions are present in the youngest models. Also, many models have optional support for 802.1a / b / g / n wireless networks. Many series of routers with integrated services are ready to work with IP-telephony. All routers are prepared for quick network deployment using both graphical tools (SDM, Cisco Configuration Professional), and the classic command line. Starting with the 1900 series, routers have expansion slots that allow you to install additional modules. These modules allow you to significantly expand the functionality of the device, reduce the load on the CPU. The modules can increase the density of LAN and WAN ports, perform cryptographic tasks, provide the functions of intrusion prevention systems, and enhance the capabilities of IP telephony.

In conclusion, I want to say that Cisco routers have almost unlimited capabilities.
