Flurry: China will soon overtake the United States by the number of smartphones

The company Flurry yesterday published new data on the distribution of smartphones and applications in the world. The global market in October is ¾ billion devices, most of which are on iOS and Android, operating simultaneously in 220 countries around the world and generating profits of up to 30 billion dollars a year.

The main position in the study was that in October, China almost caught up with the United States in the number of active devices, and they overtake the closest persecutors by 5 times. The growth of China is amazing - if in a year 55 million active devices were added to the USA, then in China it is 125 million. And Flurry predicts that by the end of Q1 2013, the Celestial Empire will overtake the United States in the number of smartphones.

Another interesting chart is the growth rate from October 2011 to October 2012. China is in the lead, the market has grown by 293% over the year - a rapidly growing middle class in the country is acquiring smartphones. In the top ten fastest growing markets, one can also see Ukraine and Russia.

Finally, go to the use of applications. According to Flurry, the company tracks about one fifth of all application launches in the world (this is 1.9 billion sessions per day on iOS, Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry and other platforms) and as can be seen from their data, the US share in using iOS and Android applications going down. With the growth of the audience in other countries, obviously, the share of the States will continue to fall, while in favor of other countries from the top ten, and then in favor of the rest of the world.

An ABI analyst recently said this: “We are no longer talking about a short-term gold rush. Applications have become the leading digital industry. ” The profit from applications in 2012 is predicted to double compared to 2011 and developers should focus not only on the US, as the main and only application market, but also on other countries and not only from the top ten. The mobile ecosystem itself and mobile stores, as part of it, give us the opportunity to work across the globe at once (Flurry says that thanks to them the world has become even more “big village”) in the new economy and media environment.
