Is your website ready for Retina?

The answer to the question is likely to be negative. And there are plenty of reasons for this. Using something like retina.js somewhat simplifies the process, but you can try a more alternative method.

How do you usually save graphics for a site? Most likely you are doing .jpg one to one and save it with a quality level somewhere around 80%. Try to do something different. Save the image twice as large as required and save with a quality level of 20%. The size of the image is likely to become even smaller, and the result is likely to surprise.

PS Perhaps this is the shortest tutorial on Habré and I by no means urge to do this, but this is one of those simple answers to a difficult question.
