Microsoft said that the number of active users of the mail service Outlook.com (formerly known as Hotmail) has reached 25 million,
writes TechCrunch. Moreover, Microsoft says that many of the new users of the service have switched from Gmail.
According to Outlook.com internal data, a whole third of Outlook.com users are active Gmail users trying the service for the first time. Microsoft noted that after polling hundreds of Gmail users, 4 out of 5 of these Gmail users announced their intention to switch to Outlook.com.
Of course, we cannot verify this information and have the right to treat it with a skepticism, but it’s possible that the refusal of the bored Hotmail brand and the redesign of the service really helped Microsoft to attract users of other services in order to at least test Outlook.com .

Microsoft said that during the survey, users noted a simple interface of the service, more effective than Gmail filtering spam and unwanted emails, as well as a simple exchange of photos and office documents.

Boasting the popularity of their email service, Microsoft also introduced many new features to Outlook.com, including new customization features and color themes, keyboard shortcuts, one-click archiving, and message chains. The last function, by the way, was popularized by Gmail.
And the most interesting: Microsoft launched
Outlook for Android (2.x and higher). Microsoft usually releases its mobile apps first for the iPhone (not counting Windows Phone, of course), but this time Android has become the first. Microsoft explained that Android devices are "inconsistent in native support for Exchange ActiveSync."
