Remote control for a reflex camera from the IR receiver
Introduction
One of my hobbies is astronomy, and, in particular, astrophotography. SLR cameras, unlike compact cameras, are very well suited for this business, especially modified in this way .
It is no secret that long exposures are used when photographing celestial objects. But when you press the shutter release button directly, we create camera shake, after which the photos look a bit blurry. But this problem can be circumvented by using a timer or remote controls that are both wired and wireless (the latter are not suitable for all cameras).
This article describes one of the ways to create a Canon remote control for a DSLR camera. ')
Problems
When using a timer, the problem arises: the maximum shutter speed of one shot can be a maximum of 30 seconds, which is not always enough. In some cases, alternative firmware comes to the rescue. But she also has flaws. Firstly, it is not written for all models, and secondly, it does not differ in speed. If you need to quickly take a picture with a non-standard exposure (for example, when photographing artificial satellites of the Earth ), only a wired remote control will help.
On the market, the cheapest remote for a SLR camera costs from $ 10. But, for example, the Canon's remote control scheme is quite simple, which allows you to make the remote yourself.
Remote from receiver
In my case, the IR receiver for the AverMedia TV tuner was used for the remote. It is fully compatible with the connector for the Canon EOS 400D Camera Remote Control and others.
As I noticed, when the camera is turned on and the manual shutter mode (BULB), the shutter is triggered when the plug is inserted in half, and closed when inserted completely. Since this IR receiver has not found its use for the intended purpose for a long time, I decided to turn it into a remote control.
The process of reworking the receiver under the remote control is very simple. It was necessary only to cut off the receiver directly and bare the wires. Under the insulation lies only 3 colored wires. By a simple search method, it turned out that when the plug is fully inserted, the camera reacts if the white and green wires are closed. And when the closure of red and white is the focus. Everything! Is done. For complete happiness, it remains to bring the new remote in a normal form and make it a button.
And how it works is shown in the video.
It remains unknown to me whether there could be any negative consequences for the camera when using the console made in this barbaric way.
