An online catalog of birch bark certificates is being created in Novgorod

In the Great Novgorod, as part of the celebrations dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the first birch bark certificate, an international research project on the creation of an electronic catalog of letters will be presented.

As reported to Interfax in the Committee of Culture and Tourism of the Novgorod Region, the website will display digitized images of about 950 birch bark documents of the 11th-15th centuries, accompanying texts in Old Slavonic and modern Russian. The project will be fully completed in 2007, when the accompanying texts in English will appear and a CD containing information about medieval letters will be released.
