A hoster who wants to run the cloud has two paths. The first is to plunge into the fascinating world of design, writing software, stuffing cones with all the ensuing consequences. We have all seen such incidents. The second is to launch on its infrastructure a ready-made solution from a well-known software vendor.
We went the second way. Our choice focused on a new product from Parallels, the Parallels Automation for Cloud Infrastructure (PACI) cloud platform. There are several reasons. Parallels - the leader among software developers for hosters. Of course, they know a lot about virtualization. In addition, we like the simplicity and convenience of the service and infrastructure control panel.

As a result, we spent only two months on implementation and testing (which is not possible for a self-written system). In October, we launched a new cloud service in
non-commercial testing , which will last until February 1, 2013. Today it is the only implementation of the platform in Russia.
')
In our cloud you can:
- Create containers and isolated virtual machines
- Use Windows and Linux
- Connect Load Balancer
- Manage servers through API
- Clone servers and use their images
In general, the service has everything to organize your cloud for any task.
Virtualization? Give two!
We consider one of the main advantages of the chosen platform to be the ability to use both virtual machines and containers (Virtuozzo) in the cloud.
You can create containers as Linux (CentOS, Debian, Fedora), and Windows. Container Virtualke quickly installed (1-5 minutes) and consume less resources when idle. At the same time, containers allow to achieve greater density of accommodation, and thus reduce the cost of services. A part of container administration tasks is outside the client’s area of responsibility, for example, updating the system kernel.
The heart of our cloud is the Parallels Server Bare Metal server software. It is this hypervisor that allows you to create both fully isolated virtual environments and containers. According to their technical characteristics and performance, they are not inferior, for example, to virtual machines running on Microsoft Hyper-V Server.
Changing the parameters of cloud servers "on the fly"
Without restarting the server using API calls or in the control panel, you can change the basic parameters of virtual servers:
- Containers - memory size, number of cores and processor clock frequency, disk size, network interface settings
- Virtual machines - increase memory and disk space, change network interface settings
You can also always create new machines by cloning existing ones or use images of servers for this.
Automatic vertical scaling of servers can be implemented today using API calls. In more detail about API opportunities in the Cloud we will tell in the following post.
Service Development Plans
In the near future, the following features are planned:
Test Cloud Servers for Free
Non-commercial testing will last until February 1, 2013.
Join and try all the features of Cloud servers. We are waiting for your feedback and suggestions to thoroughly work on the service before launching it for commercial use.
Authors of the 3 most complete and interesting reviews of the service we give on iPhone5. We will choose the winners after February 1, together with colleagues from Parallels.
