HP SAS License Key for B320i + HP DL360 Gen8 (non-standard SAS drives)
Recently, our old HP DL 360 G5 server with the b200i controller began to die. The 2 sas 146Gb screws were in the mirror and at some point the second slot stopped working properly and the new backup screws could not be raised. It was decided to update the server, but not so expensive and angry. I took an inexpensive DL360e Gen8 + power supply to it + hard SAS Article 507127-TV1. The seller offered precisely these hard ones, since they are cheaper, and why cheaper, no one could really explain, the description says - analog 507127-B21 . Well, I think they are tough and they are tough in Africa, I did not go into details. Well, the server flew to me, unpacked, inserted the screws, but somehow strangely they entered there:
Well, the screws are cheap, not new, let them stick. Not critical. I turn on the server, enter the controller configurator and see this picture: ')
I started to understand that yes, as I found out the following, that only the screws that are designed for it, i.e., work with the new Gen8 servers.those that are published in the specification to the server. This screw is listed there (original), but instead of it I took an analogue 507127-TV1. Further reading more closely about this “analog” paid attention to this - 300GB 2.5 (SFF) SAS 10K 6G HotPlug Dual Port ENT HDD (For servers & storage, except Gen8 ), Promo (analog 507127-B21)and then everything fell into place. What to do? And the solution is very simple, but it does not honor HP. Added a week later: The problem was not in the disks themselves, as it turned out, but the problem is that there is no key for the RAID controller, no SAS disk will work without a License:
They put the same disks 652564-B21, but nothing has changed, the controller requires a key. The warning caption has not changed -
Important: And if you want, in addition to SAS, also RAID 5, then do not forget about the memory:
In the end, we decided to buy this key for $ 150. With this key, you can insert any * screws (theoretically), but as I understand it, the light indication will not work. * I would like to hear your comments about whether, if you still activate the option with a key, will unlicensed disks work properly?
507127-TV1 (analogue 507127-B21), I suspect that if you insert it into a new basket, its number will become 652564-B21
And here is the basket for Gen8. The difference is $ 90, between the old model disks => G7 and new for Gen 8.
Well, after all, the recording from Leonid Sosnin's LiveJournal.
A week later In general, the situation became clearer, the respected r0n was right, the license is included in the package, but not SAS disks, and if there is an installed RAID controller in the server. Attached are instructions on how to activate the key and the Order Number itself, which you need to enter on the HP website.
