Attributor: new service will protect content from pirates

California startup Attributor has opened a search system for pirated materials for copyright holders who want to stop the violation of their copyright.

The service works by subscription; The copyright holder registers his authoring material in the system - a video, image or text, from which the “imprint” is created, a kind of DNA material, and is added to the database. The system regularly scans various sites and compares the files found on them with the “prints” in the database. When a match is found, the system informs the copyright holder of this or automatically sends a letter to the site owner requesting to remove the material. The fact of sending the letter is registered and the system waits for the reaction of the pirates.

The copyright holder can also set the rules for distributing the material; then the system will take action only if the file is found on a site where its distribution is prohibited.

Reuters and the Associated Press were among the first customers of the system. Attributor also uses News Canada and ProfessionalTravelGuide.com, a hotel review site.

The most annoying is that the victims of this system will be ordinary Internet users in which large companies will file claims.
