A long-term project has started in Russia, in which the leading players of the IT market will try to equip computer classes of Russian schools with computer equipment. Something this charity activity is similar to the OLPC, actively developing in the United States and Canada. The only difference is that laptops, called Classmate PC, will not be handed directly to the kids, but installed in schools.
In this project, organized by the non-profit foundation Volnoe Delo, such companies as Intel and Microsoft have already indicated their participation. The Krasnodar Territory was chosen as a launching pad for charity events, in whose schools 2,000 computers have already been installed.
In general, the tasks of the “Volnoe Delo” foundation are serious. According to the plans of the organizers, they are going to transfer up to 200 thousand PCs to Russian schools annually. Whether it will be possible (will it be possible to attract a sufficient number of sponsors) will become clear after the completion of the pilot stage.
