Hundreds of "diggers" generate 56% of Digg content

Collective blog Digg is often given for the "collective intelligence" of the entire Internet, through which the most interesting news is filtered. But the reality is a bit different. If this is a collective mind, then only a limited number of people. Statistics of the most active users of Digg.com shows that a small group of 20 people supplies a fifth of all materials that go to the first page of the site. This conclusion follows from simple calculations based on published statistics.

Further calculation shows that a hundred of the most active users posted 14.249 stories on the first page, and this is 56.41% of the total number of stories that hit the first page in the entire history of the site. Thus, it turns out that a very small group of users controls more than half of the content of Digg.com.
