As is known, Rockchip RK3066 chips are dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processors with a core frequency of 1.6 GHz. These processors are very popular among Chinese manufacturers, which produce a large number of various kinds of mobile devices, tablets, mini-PCs based on these processors. Most of these devices are based on Android, since the developers of Rockchip presented not so many tools / documentation / source codes for third-party software developers.
But there was a way out. The developer AndrewDB was able to port Ubuntu 12.10 to work on the UG802 (and other devices based on RK3066). This work was made possible thanks to the manufacturers of the bq Edison tablet, which posted the source codes for the tablet core.

A couple of developers began to work on porting the Linux distribution of Linux for devices based on RK3066. But AndrewDB has made the most progress on this issue. He described his work in detail, having also laid out quite a lot of photographs showing the course of his work.
At the moment, Ubuntu for UG802 works, but there are still some problems (as without them). For example, WiFI only works when an external module is connected. You can work with Bluetooth, but you also need an external module. Yes, and the speed of data transfer via USB is not too good.
On the other hand, he almost succeeded in the question of how 1080p monitors work when connected to the integrated HDMI port.
A lot of work has already been done, but, of course, all this needs some work. If more developers are joining AndrewDB, then we can soon speak about the complete success in porting Ubuntu 12.10. In any case, a lot has already been done in a short period of time.
