Found the remains of a pigeon with a cryptogram of World War II

Nearly 70 years after the end of the Second World War, in the chimney of one of the mansions of the village of Bletchingli, Great Britain, pigeon remains were found with a red-colored mail container tied to its paw.

The container was not empty and contained a well-preserved encryption. The unfortunate bird tried to deliver it to the address, but lost its way either because of bad weather, or because of fatigue after the flight for many hundreds of kilometers.

The aluminum ring on the paw of the pigeon contains its number 40TW194 (the first two digits indicate the date of birth). By the encryption number you can almost certainly determine that the message was sent from occupied France on June 6, 1944, on the day of the Allied troops landing on the coast. At that time, Churchill declared a radio silence, so that all important messages were transmitted by pigeon mail, but such ciphers were used extremely rarely. The addressee of the message is counter-intelligence officer Wilfred Dunderdale (Wilfred Dunderdale), whose house is located 130 km from Bletchingli.

Experts believe that encryption is extremely important and is able to discover new facts about the Second World War. The best cryptologists of GCHQ have already started working “fanatically,” according to a press release from Bletchley Park. A few days after the publication of the press release, there is still no news on the site, so the code was probably not the easiest.
