Nokia introduced the mapping platform. Here: PC, iOS, Android and Firefox OS

Nokia has long been making maps for Windows Phone (Nokia Maps), but given the share of the OS on the market, we can assume that few of us are familiar with them. Yesterday, Nokia announced a new platform called Here - cross-platform, cloud-based for PC, iOS, Android and Firefox OS.

The Nokia partner for the new platform will be Mozilla and this explains the presence of Firefox OS. Initially, the cartography will work in a browser based on HTML5. The first Here application for Android will be the HTML5 version, but iOS will get a more functional (with offline caching, voice navigation, etc.) native application - it has already been sent for approval in the App Store and will be available “soon”.

Androiod but next year will receive the Here SDK, which will allow developers to use the Here functionality in their applications (there is no data on a separate Android application yet).

Here maps will differ in 3D views (similar to StreetView), for which the American earthmine company was purchased, augmented by the reality of LiveSight (based on this technology City Lens for Lumia was made), turn-by-turn navigation with voice, public transport support, Map service Creator that allows users to edit the content of the maps.
