Vuzix Smart Glasses M100, a competitor to Google Glass, will go on sale in early 2013

While Google is planning to launch its gadget on the market, it has a competitor in this niche, which is also developing and planning to launch a similar device soon. Let's call this device "glasses". Although the word headset is more appropriate here, because with glasses he does not have a lot of similarities. The company Vuzix , known for its video glasses, which are used both for domestic needs (games, video viewing) and for industrial ones (medicine, military industry), will produce them.

Vuzix Smart Glasses M 100 glasses will hit the market in early 2013. The device is similar in size to a bluetooth headset and works on Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The mini-computer uses an OMAP 4430 processor with a frequency of 1 GHz. The device is endowed with 1 GB of RAM, a flash module with a capacity of 4 GB, a camera with 720p video recording, Wi-Fi (802.11b / g / n) and bluetooth adapters.

Vuzix Smart Glasses M 100 includes the functions of a speakerphone, photos, working with a web browser and working with SMS, as well as navigation services using Google Maps. The device can work completely autonomously, or together with devices on iOS or Android. The system includes a 3-axis head movement sensor with a gyroscope, a GPS navigator and a digital compass. There is also a headset and speaker for making calls and voice commands.
The device projects an image in the ratio of 16: 9 in front of the eye, equivalent in size to a 4-inch image seen from 35 centimeters on a 4-inch display. The level of its brightness is 2000 nits, which is important in sunny weather.

The battery capacity of the M100 does not make you happy for a long time - in the usual bluetooth headset mode, the gadget can work for 8 hours, with the active display the time is reduced to 2 hours, and if you activate the camera, you will have to be content with only an autonomous work hour.
For convenience, the developers have made it possible to wear the device on the left or right side of the head.

Tools for developers will appear in December. And the cost of the device itself will be $ 999.
