Karateka game remake

The famous game designer Jordan Mehner (the one who recently found behind the cabinet floppy with the source code Prince of Persia ), is the author of another famous game Karateka. He developed it alone in the early 80s on his Apple II computer as a student, and in 1984 he sent a diskette by mail to Brøderbund.

Fighting Karateka is considered to be very advanced for its time, it is characterized by realistic animation and addictive atmosphere. By April 1985, Karateka became the best-selling game in the United States, and after the release of versions for Commodore 64, Atari, Nintendo NES and Game Boy, total sales exceeded 500 thousand copies. Success convinced Mechner that the development of games can make a living, and he began to create the Prince of Persia.

Over the past 28 years, computers have become much faster, so now there is an opportunity to make a remake of the game at a qualitatively new level. And Jordan Mehner assembled a small team of developers and released a Karateka remake to please all of us.

In the new "Karatek" the story is slightly improved: there are three main characters, each of whom can get to Princess Mariko. You start the game with a romantic character who doesn’t fight very well. If they kill him, they give you a less nice guy who fights better. If he fails, then give a real fighter, but very ugly. Ideally, you need to reach the princess as a romantic hero. The game lasts 30-40 minutes, that is, about the same as the original version of 1984. The preservation function, apparently, is also absent here, as in the original.

Already released version for Xbox Live. Until the end of November, Karateka will appear in the Steam and PlayStation Store catalog, later the version for iOS is promised.
