DARPA is working on an intelligent crime prediction system.
In the fantasy film Dissenting Opinion, the hero Tom Cruise was engaged in preventing crimes that had not yet been committed, but that were predicted by the three visionary mediums. If we discard the last component from this scheme - predictors of the future - then we get something similar to the actual development of DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency - an agency of advanced defense research projects), which is sponsored by the US Army and which is designed to identify "possible" crimes.
The Cognitive Engine project is the development of a special division of the DARPA Innovation House, which is an artificial intelligence system designed to analyze a large amount of video stream and identify people with potentially dangerous behavior. In fact, we are talking about pattern recognition, identifying objects and comparing their behavior with certain behavioral patterns that are recognized by the system as trustworthy and that do not require the attention of the police or similar services. The man left the bag in a public place? A man holds his hand in his pocket, in which obviously something lies? Someone in black camouflage and with a large backpack comes out of the closet? Such signs of a potential crime will be recognized by a system that responds accordingly, and the security services will be able to take “preventive measures.”
The Cognitive Engine solution will be based on the volume visualization technique and another DARPA development called Extended Activity Reasoning system (EAR), which can be trained both from personal experience and based on human rules and characteristics.
