Canonical decided to create a game development team.

It is strange that this news did not slip on Habré, because The news is not the first freshness. (~ November 2)

The Ubuntu Developer Summit (Ubuntu Developer Summit) actively discusses the creation of a separate team of developers who will work on the development of Ubuntu as a gaming platform. A page for this command has already been created: launchpad.net/~ubuntu-game-dev .

Daniel van Vugt acted as the creator of the Ubuntu Game Developers group (he works at Canonical on Compiz and Unity). The group also included Compiz maintenteers, three engineers from Unity 3D, developing the eponymous game engine, and about ten interested developers.

Creating such a team is obvious, because in Ubuntu 13.04 they will actively work on the performance of Unity, respectively, the Ubuntu Game Developers team will solve the problems with the performance of games in Ubuntu. Well, the output of Steam is clearly how it influenced the creation of the team.
