Official: Google Phone Does Not Exist

Google Phone does not exist. As it turned out, the search giant with the cooperation of 34 companies, including such major manufacturers as Samsung, HTC, Motorola and LG, developed a software platform for phones. It will be provided free of charge to phone manufacturers and will significantly reduce the cost of high-end functional devices.

“Today’s announcement is much more ambitious than the Google phone announcement, which the press has been actively talking about in recent weeks,” says Google’s chief executive, Eric Schmidt, “we think our powerful platform will be the basis for thousands of different phone models.

The first devices based on this software platform will appear in the second half of 2008. Approximately simultaneously with Nokia touchscreen smartphones.

As it turned out, instead of the Google phone introduced the Android software platform. Its developers are part of the Open Handset Alliance, which has 34 companies. Among them are manufacturers of phones, processors and other hardware, operators and software manufacturers.

Android is a full-featured platform consisting of an operating system, middleware, user interface and a set of applications.

An open and free software platform will be available under an open source license. This allows operators and developers to modify the system without significant restrictions. Developer libraries will be presented on November 12, and real devices will appear in the second half of 2008.
