Twitter password leak

The Twitter microblogging service sent out parts of the users a letter asking them to change their account password. On November 8, TechCrunch reports , whose microblogging temporarily ended up in the hands of spammers.

The letter states that a certain third-party site or service accessed the user’s account, so Twitter reset its password. To set a new password, follow the link provided in the letter.

Service representatives did not answer the question of how many accounts were compromised. They only indicated that receiving users need to change passwords.

TechCrunch indicates that a tweet appeared in the hacked microblog of the publication with a proposal to earn up to $ 250 from home and a link to a foreign resource. In this case, the British comedian David Mitchell (David Mitchell), also received a letter from Twitter, said that for him the only noticeable effect of "hacking" was the missing tweet, citing his column in the Observer publication.

PS I myself received a similar letter on October 28. I personally didn’t notice any hacking, but I think such a wide variation in the timing of sending emails can be said in favor of the fact that Twitter cannot yet estimate the exact extent of password leakage. It is possible that those who need an account on this social network should protect themselves and change their password themselves in the near future.
