One of the advantages of the new Microsoft Surface tablet is the large amount of internal memory: 32 GB and 64 GB. Unfortunately, in reality, much of this space
will not be available for use . It remains only 16 and 46 GB.

The advertised 32 and 64 GB are given in the decimal system, whereas in terms of the file system it is 29 and 59 GB. Further, 5 GB is reserved for a full backup of the system with all drivers, OS updates and encryption keys. Another 8 GB is reserved for Windows RT, MS Office and other programs. As a result, on the Surface 32 and 64 GB tablets, 16 GB and 46 GB are actually available space, respectively.
For comparison, iOS reserves 1.5 GB, of which the OS uses 800 MB, but after upgrading to Retina, all applications increased significantly in size:
Pages increased from 95 to 269 MB, Numbers from 109 to 283 MB ,
Keynote program
takes 286 MB .

Surface can store files in SkyDrive, and by default all MS Office documents are saved there. And most importantly, the tablet has a USB connector for a flash drive and a microSD connector, where you can insert a card up to 64 GB, so there are no problems with expanding disk space, unlike some tablets on other operating systems.
True, MS Surface cannot be installed on external media, but at least you can store work files, movies and music there.
Anyway, 13 GB for Windows is very modest, as is known to users of Vista and Windows 7.
