Panoramic video from the cab of a Formula 1 car

Another example of Red Bull's sponsorship, in addition to Felix Baumgartner’s jump from the stratosphere, is shown below - this is an impressive real panoramic (360 °) video shot from a Formula 1 race car at a speed of 322 km / h. The car is driven by the Swiss racer Sebastien Olivier Buemi on the Rudskogen Motorsenter in Norway.

The technology of obtaining such a video is using a special camera ViewCam 360, created by the company Making View, which with the help of a spherical lens system can receive an equirectangular video with a resolution of 4K x 2K and a frame rate of 25-50 fps. The weight of the camera is about 600 grams, the internal memory is 224 GB; The camera is controlled via a wireless interface.

How the camera looks and its size can be estimated in the photo below:

For shooting the race track, the camera was installed behind the pilot and slightly higher, which makes it possible to see the car itself and the race car driver. To insert a frame with a video, Habr, apparently, does not allow, so you can look at the video here .

Navigation is done either with the mouse or with the arrow keys.
