Today there will be no scientific news. The only event from Mars - Curiosity made a beautiful high-resolution color self-portrait.
The portrait was obtained during a serial shooting with a MAHLI camera - Mars Hand Lens Imager. From her name it is clear that she is on the hand - manipulator. For a full picture, 55 frames were used, which were then combined and conducted a detailed retouch. Thanks to the efforts of NASA and the Malin Space Science Systems team that made the color cameras of the rover and process images from them, we can enjoy this wonderful picture.

The place where Curiosity is now called Rocknest is a small sand dune at its wheels on the left. On the right, behind the "back" of the rover you can see the slope of the five-kilometer Sharpe Mountain (the official name is Aeolis Mons). To the left and beyond are the northern slopes of the ring mountains of the Gale crater. At the bottom left - four tracks from the excavation of the rover. 4 attempts to collect soil, the third of which was successful (on the results of the study: habrahabr.ru/post/156771 ). With a full-length photo, with enough zeal, you can even look at a piece of plastic that a couple of weeks ago so alarmed NASA experts that they suspended work for three days (for more information, see: habrahabr.ru/post/155449 ).
The fact that photographed not Martians and not technology in the Arizona desert, you can guess by looking into the reflector of the telescope Chem Cam.
In the inverted reflection, we will see the "tower" of the manipulator
And even the way it moves from frame to frame:
The next day, Curiosity repeated the shooting, but with a slight offset, so that we have the opportunity to enjoy its stereo image as well.
Color balancing of photos was not carried out. However, judging by the white body, the resulting gamma is very close to what our eyes would see. Therefore, it seems to me that these shots must once and for all put an end to disputes and speculations on the theme of the "true" color of Mars.
On this topic NASA even video explaining released
UPD. NASA released an animation showing the manipulator during shooting.
