Review of the Soviet electromechanical gaming machine "Torpedo attack"

The electromechanical Torpedna Attack gaming machine has been produced at the Serpukhov Radio Engineering Plant since 1981. Designed for entertainment and recreation for adults and children. The basis of the machine was the “Sea Battle” slot machine popular in the USSR. Like all Soviet machines is a simplified copy of a foreign gaming machine.

Control interface and playing field

The device is based on the principle of mirror reflection on the panorama screen of hostilities, surface targets and fired torpedoes. Players look through the periscope and, moving it horizontally, press the torpedo trigger button. The results are displayed on the scoreboard under the periscopes of each player. To select a single or a pair of games there are buttons for selecting the number of players. The dashboard in the very center of the device serves exclusively decorative purposes.











For children, there are retractable stands at each playing place.

Monetization

According to the rules, the cost of one game for two people cost 30 kopecks (2x15), and alone 15 kopecks. If the unit was in very busy places, for example, at the Exhibition of Economic Achievements, often the game was played by two players at once. Revenue from one device per day ranged from 20 to 60 rubles. In a month, they ran up to 1,500 rubles.

Having opened the device with a special key, we get access to the power button, two fuses and the " coinless game " or "check" button. Apparently, the button "coinless" game is the ancestor of the codes of " eternal life ".

And also, the playing field itself can be seen along which the torpedoes, the beacon and the lights are moving. All this is then projected into the periscope.
