Comtech AHA has announced the release of the “first-ever chip in the world that implements compression and unpacking of information using the GZIP algorithm”.
Taking into account the declared capacity of 2.5 GB per second, the
AHA3610 chip can increase data transfer speed four times and reduce the requirements for RAM in applications such as storage networks, web servers, web accelerators, etc.
Mass deliveries of the AHA3610 are scheduled for early January 2008. A prototype device is already available at a price of $ 55 apiece.
