ARM ChrUbuntu 12.04 Alpha - Porting Ubuntu to Samsung Chromebook

"Chromobuk" from Samsung and Google attracts the attention of gadget lovers around the world. The software of this netbook try to change and customize for themselves. Proponents of Linux are currently trying to install Linux on a Chromebook, so that it works all at once. So far, to achieve the perfect work of LInux distributions on the specified netbook does not work, but there is success. A significant success can be called porting Ubuntu to a Chromebook with ARM.

ARM ChrUbuntu 12.04 Alpha is the first Linux distribution that has been “sharpened” specifically for ARM systems. Actually, this is the port of Ubuntu 12.04. At the same time all the iron works ... well, or almost everything.

The system was ported by the same developer that previously ported Ubuntu to a Chromebook with a platform from Intel. It is clear that the distribution kit still needs to be “finished”, but the developer has already achieved a lot. For example, all wireless communication modules, USB ports, a card reader work. But audio did not start, the touchpad does not always work correctly, plus there is no hardware acceleration for graphics.

As a browser on such a netbook, you can only use Chromium, because there is no Chrome browser created for the Linux distribution on ARM systems.

Installation instructions for ARM ChrUbuntu can be found here . The positive thing is that you can install this system on the SSD, without having to remove Chrome OS. This means that on a netbook you can work with two operating systems, with the possibility of a choice at boot.

And yes, the other day, another developer was able to install openSUSE on a Chromebook. But there are no details, unfortunately, no. There is only a developer profile in Google + and a photo of a Chromebook with Linux.
