48 cores for smartphones and tablets

Intel announced its intention to create a processor on 48 cores, focused on mobile devices.

Experts say that it will help to divide the intensive load between several cores. The presence of such a number of cores means improved multi-tasking capabilities, improved performance and optimized power consumption, compared to current processors on 2 and 4 cores.

Justin Ratner, Chief Technical Officer, notes that devices with such processors can appear on the market much earlier than predicted (as predicted in 10 years).

He also added that speech recognition and the use of augmented reality functions will constantly push developers to increase productivity — instead of processing this data in the cloud, the device itself will take care of it. Some operating principles of the OS and applications with kernels will also be changed.
