Steven Sinofsky told why computers with Windows 8 are better than MacBooks and promised cheap ultrabooks

Apple presentations with the iPad Mini and Microsoft with Windows 8 and Surface were held almost simultaneously, and the heads of both companies have already managed to exchange barbs about their products. So Tim Cook mysteriously called Surface “risky and compromise,” and now Stephen Sinofsky, the president of Windows, told reporters why, in his opinion, computers running Windows 8 are “better” than Apple-made computers.

In an interview with AllThingsD, Sinofsky described his vision of the future of the new system in the following vein: high-quality and cheap computers available to the majority. At the same time, the low price of a computer does not mean a limitation of its capabilities - so today it is quite possible to purchase a good student computer for $ 279, which distinguishes this proposal from the recent Apple product, which costs $ 329, and the obviously cheap MacBook.

Also an important role is played by competition. Access to the Windows 8 platform have many manufacturers, such as Acer. Lenovo or Dell. Each of them, fighting for a potential audience, may well offer its solutions to consumers at a more favorable price, while Apple considers it possible to offer an expensive tablet with a screen whose quality is lower than its cheap main competitor - Nexus 7.

Sinofsky also says that the market is waiting for light and thin ultrabooks (it is clear that on Windows 8), the cost of which will be hundreds of dollars cheaper than the price of MacBooks. At the same time, he emphasized that this is not the likeness of aggressive dumping and Microsoft will not conquer the market to the detriment of its income. The price reduction will be provided only by the level of engineering solutions, and not by marketing strategic moves.
