Interns at OpenSource

Let's agree at once, all of the following is an exceptionally random flight of my fantasy.
The purpose of the post is to ask the habrasoobshchestva advice on the emerging ideas and get zvizdyuley support, and maybe practical experience.

In our company, for a period of 3 to 6 months, a certain number of ASP.NET programmers are being trained. Internship involves the implementation under the direction of the curator of a large number of laboratory tasks that are completely useless and are not used after the end of development. And at one point, I had an idea - and not to connect them to the development of any open-source project?

It is much more interesting for the interns themselves + will contribute to the Open Source movement. Anticipating angry comments like “Yes, they are needed there, only will spoil everything,” I’ll explain that in my opinion the only weak point is the speed of development, since the final code is still written under the strict control of an experienced curator and undergoes a thorough review. In essence, we offer Open Sorce a project of working hands that we feed, pay and help in every way. Of course, interns are unlikely to be suitable for solving some global problems, but nevertheless without any work, I think they will not remain ...

I would be very grateful for any opinion regarding this venture, maybe even someone can advise specific projects ...
