The Japanese government plans to regulate the access of minors to dating sites

The government plans to revise a law regulating the access of minors to dating sites in order to take control of child prostitution - according to a draft proposal aimed at combating potentially dangerous Web sites.

These proposals include promoting education - children should be able to recognize harmful sites - and the government is going to include such disciplines as mandatory.

The current law was passed in 2003. The changes will be officially approved on November 9 at a meeting of the General Directorate for the development of an IT strategy.

According to the changes for dating sites, operators and owners of such sites will have to check the age of visitors, asking them to send a copy of their driver’s license or health insurance card (Note: I'm honestly interested in seeing this process in action).

The government also prohibits access to such sites from mobile phones.

According to management, more than 1,000 people a year, mostly women, are victims of cyber crime. More than 96% of people somehow affected by dating sites, came to them through mobile phones.

Other proposals include, for example, requirements to involve private companies in creating cyber patrols.
