Small shopping offer for supermarkets

I do not hope, of course, that someone relevant to the matter will notice this post, but it’s still better to say and regret than not say and regret.

So, how does a cashier work in a typical supermarket? He takes out another product and a basket, finds his eyes with a bar code, deforms the package so that it is as flat as possible, turns the package with a bar code from himself to the scanner beam, waves in front of the scanner so that it reads the bar code.

And now the rational proposal: ustnovite scanner, so that it shines not in the eyes of the cashier, but at the feet of the buyer and located on the edge of the table closest to the cashier. The task of feeding the bar-code of a big-eyed typewriter is simplified - he got the goods, found the barcode, straggled and wave it right now, without turning it. In many cases, the reading will occur at the same time as the cashier finds the bar code.
')
Meaning? Reduction of offensive, mechanical, routine work for one operation, acceleration of queue processing, removal of the duty to act blindly, increase of its efficiency and motivation, all earthly benefits.

There is, of course, the opposite option - to put a mirror near the scanner in order to see whether it turned right or not (novice cashiers often make mistakes during a difficult affine conversion operation and do not get into the scanner with code, are nervous, are looking for a new code). The mirror, however, must be made turning (for different growth), and it does not eliminate the unnecessary operation of rotating the goods, it only allows it to be more precise. In short, I'm for moving the scanner. A curtain.

PS Another thought, of course, is a portable scanner, which needs to be waved near the found code - but also not an option: hands are already occupied with goods (for example, packing diapers), and such a machine breaks, probably more often (for example, it can be dropped). In general, think.

PPS I do not call to create a revolution in the treatment of buyers. I do not introduce a new technology. I don’t want to give up bar coding and laser scanning (“didn’t break, don’t fix it”). I know that there are a lot of developments that allow to radically change the processing of the queue. But if you want to tell me now about the next of them - better go to the director of the nearest supermarket, tell him (and tell me about my idea too).

Now, if you yourself are the director of a supermarket, and / or you have an understanding of why my idea is not good - please comment. I'll be happy.

PPPS Well, by the way, the ultimatum rational offer is to remove from the cashier completely (hear, FULLY) all the responsibilities for the sale of small goods (bags, cigarettes, merzavchikov, chicken cubes and other things). The cashier "picks up" the scanner and counts the money. Everything.
