Release Date: 07/23/2012Here is another book of our publishing house, which is difficult to pass. If earlier JavaScript had a not very good reputation, now a new era has come in the World Wide Web for this language. The first ninja "Learning jQuery" came out at the beginning of last year and proved to be very positive (

The jQuery library is indispensable in the work of many web developers: it allows you to achieve spectacular results based on JavaScript, using ready-made developments. Impressive photo galleries, menus, buttons — all of these elements that draw your attention to popular websites are often implemented using jQuery. Like any smart tool, jQuery is mastered much easier when there is a printed instruction or manual at hand. A good helper will serve the book "Learning jQuery", which was published by the publishing house "Peter".

"Learning jQuery" is addressed to readers who are at least a little familiar with HTML, CSS, and programming languages. Knowledge of JavaScript is welcome, but it is not necessary to be a professional in it. Thus, this book is more likely for web designers than for actual developers (although, for example, working with controls is considered on a decent technical level). Our focus is on how a particular element or effect embedded in jQuery will look and behave, and then this is explained in terms of JavaScript.
We are entering a new level of complexity from about the sixth chapter, where jQuery is considered as a framework for implementing Ajax-functionality. It would be worthwhile to recommend additional reading on Ajax - a summary, as in this manual, perhaps it will not be enough. Of course, at the end of the book there are several reference applications, but they are nothing more than cheat sheets.
To make the routine of web development more entertaining, as a working draft, the authors suggest that readers improve the functionality and appearance of a hypothetical website that helps fans and paparazzi to follow celebrities. Such an ambiguous goal gives rise to a lot of jokes, not to mention the fact that when developing this site we manage to use just an incredible amount of jQuery features. Unlike many similar benefits, suffering from excessive dryness, “Learning jQuery” is written quite easily and figuratively, sometimes not without wit. This is not a reference book, but a textbook in which the presentation of the material goes without obeying a strict system, but in the order in which we needed one or another element: working with tables, basic animation, page scrolling, lightboxes, menus, forms and so Further. Such a statement is not very convenient in the case of reference books, but here it is a call for the reader to be actively involved in the process of imaginary development and, perhaps, in parallel to try to create something of their own. Probably, at the first reading you will miss the more difficult moments or do not want to dwell on some trifles, but the book is practical and informative enough to reread it at different stages of learning JavaScript.
And one more funny thing: we will not consider this a hidden Apple advertisement, however, the authors of the book harbor much sympathy for their most popular OS, comparing the web elements with iPhoto and Growl for clarity.
