Magic Finger turns any surface into a touch interface
Scientists from Autodesk Research at the University of Alberta and the University of Toronto have developed a prototype Magic Finger device that can turn almost any surface into a touch screen.
The device consists of several optical sensors and a high-resolution camera capable of detecting 22 different surface textures with an accuracy of 98.9%. Programmed to the personal preferences of the owner, Magic Finger will be able to perform the same actions as regular digital interfaces, as well as recognize “artificial” textures that act like QR codes. In Autodesk Researsh hope that one day, the device will become autonomous and miniature for use in everyday life.
