The name of the
SCO Group company, which has already become a nominal name, may well come down from the opensource-community. Despite the
defeat in a long battle for copyright on Unix and UnixWare and a running bankruptcy procedure, SCO has found a buyer for its Unix business, which will also cover legal costs for the past proceedings with Novell.
According
to LinuxWorld, SCO filed a request (
pdf ) with the Bankruptcy Court for approval of the deal with JGD Management, which will pay $ 36 million for its Unix intellectual property, for the cost of the ongoing litigation with Novell and IBM and as a contribution in partnership with SCO mobile application manufacturer Me Inc.
The court must decide on the request until November 9. In the event of a positive verdict (which, as many experts believe, it is very likely), SCO will automatically go beyond all disputes for Unix and will expand the business exclusively into the software for mobile devices.
