What awaits us tomorrow, or Habrahabr and Futurico - in the battle of giants. Part one

Recently, there has been an interesting trend. It seems that everything goes to the fact that all significant and influential Internet projects will eventually become the property of one of two or three giant companies - in order to become just another unit in someone’s arsenal, in the global war for redistribution of the software and Internet market on our planet.

Taking into account the realities of today, it can be assumed that on any tomorrow any “combat-capable” Internet project is potentially capable of becoming part of the high-tech arsenal of Microsoft or Google - companies that today most rapidly penetrate the lives of each of us.

A change of owner rarely changes anything in the life of an Internet project — it can both improve it and kill it.

')

Why all? And the fact that if Habrahabr continues to position itself as one of the most progressive Russian-speaking thematic communities (which is beyond doubt), it will be bought sooner or later, either separately or with the entire group of thematic projects Futurico.

Perhaps today it sounds somewhat utopian, but tomorrow there is a chance to face the fact.

The biggest paradox is that changing the owner of Habrahabr will inevitably lead to the death of an existing project.

This can be especially clearly demonstrated by an example, when Microsoft acts as a buyer. Today, this software giant does not hesitate to throw money down the drain by placing ads on Habré.

Here, Microsoft not only enjoys a consistently negative trust rating : one of the company's key products, Internet Explorer, at the time of this writing has support for only fifty ( 50 + 3 ) habrazhiteli, including the author of the topic.

Today, no advertising is able to increase the confidence of hackers at Microsoft, who, in their opinions (relative to the same IE), are primarily guided by an assessment of the quality of their products. It is no secret that Microsoft products that have achieved popularity in the absence of an alternative are mostly inconvenient and are inferior in terms of a number of indicators to rapidly developing world peers, and therefore are rapidly losing the confidence of users all over the world.

Nevertheless, the realities of the market economy are such that those who pay money order music. And this means that Microsoft, which indirectly pays the salary to Habra employees today, can do it directly - tomorrow. (Why not ?! Between "indirectly" and "directly" - such a fine line!).

Do you like pop, rock or maybe classics - it does not matter, now you will listen to what the new owner ordered. Or leave the wonderful project Futurico Microsoft. Leave, despite the fact that the project has already become part of your inner world. And this part will have to pull up with blood. If only because for some time you began to hate UFOs.

To be continued...
