It’s hard to find a site that right owners would like to destroy more than The Pirate Bay. The bay was repeatedly blocked in different countries, DDoSs were turned off, servers were confiscated, and
they tried to de-anonymize the top siders. The TPB team, in turn, changed the hosting, refused to store the .torrent files, switching to magnet links, and even considered placing
servers on UAVs hovering over neutral waters.
On Tuesday, October 16, one more step was taken to create the most “non-killed” service. Now the main servers of the Bay are located in the clouds, with different hosting providers. And the providers themselves do not know anything about it. All traffic and all contents of virtual machines are encrypted. Only transit routers and a load balancer remain under the direct control of The Pirate Bay. They are diskless servers, so even if they are confiscated, no important data will be lost.
The main cloud servers, intermediate routers and balancer are located in different countries and communicate with each other over encrypted channels. If the cloud server cannot reach the balancer within eight hours, it automatically shuts down and can be turned on again only if you have the key. To completely paralyze the work of The Pirate Bay, you will need coordinated efforts of the special services of several countries.
In addition to greater security, the use of cloud servers reduces costs and saves the team from iron problems. So, the incident with the power distribution unit in the beginning of October put Bay for
almost two days . The new infrastructure is much more flexible and allows you to recover from even the most serious failure in minutes and hours, not days.
