Apple will pay the Swiss railway workers for the right to use the clock icon in iOS 6

Three weeks ago, the post “Apple stole the“ clock ”in iOS 6 from the Swiss railways appeared on Habré. Its essence is that the clock icon on the iOS 6 exactly copies the clock of the Swiss railways (Schweizerische Bundesbahnen, SBB). If Apple had not been so zealously defending the rights to its own technologies and patents (including very controversial ones), no one would have paid any attention to this. But the patent trolling of the Cupertino company has already fed up with many things, and a serious scandal broke out (warmed up, of course, by competitors to Apple).

Representatives of the Swiss railway company sued Apple, almost immediately after the situation became widely known. Actually, they did it right, because the clock itself, the design of which was created by an SBB employee in 1944, has long been associated with many people not only with Swiss railways, but also with this country.

In general, Apple had to enter into an agreement with the Swiss. The essence of the contract is simple: Cupertino get the right to legally use the design of watches in iOS6, and the Swiss receive royalties from Apple. Unfortunately, the size of these contributions remains unknown. But, most likely, you will have to pay a lot.

By the way, the manufacturer of watches Mondaine Watch Ltd. received the right to use the watch design earlier, and this company was also one of the opponents of Apple in this situation.
