Founder of ARPANet predicts a global Internet crisis

Dr. Lawrence Roberts, one of the founders of the American military network ARPANet, which then evolved into the Internet and became the basis for the modern World Wide Web, predicts a global crisis to its creation.

Like some other experts, Lawrence Roberts believes that communication channels may not withstand increasing traffic volumes. The use of fiber has allowed to solve the problem with the thickness of the channels, but packet routing technology has not changed for decades. Traffic volumes double every year, but routers improve by following Moore’s law and double their computing power every 18 months.

As a solution to the problem, Dr. Roberts calls for switching to “flow-based” routers (flow-based routing) of the new generation manufactured by Anagran . By some coincidence, Dr. Roberts is the founder and director of this company.
