Companies and ordinary people are increasingly creating mail in their domain with the help of specialized services. The reason is simple - it's easier and cheaper. You do not need to create your own infrastructure, you do not need to support it. We decided to do a little research and see what services people use.
The technique was as follows. We took Reg.ru registrar with a complete list of domains in the .ru zone and scanned them for Mail Exchange (MX) records. From these records, you can definitely say which mail service the domain owner uses. If the service has several mail exchange points, the data on these points were summarized. As a result, we selected the 50 most popular results of MX records and grouped them by mail providers.
It turned out that more than half of the domains in the .ru zone have mail. 17% of domains are connected to services from the top 10 popular postal services. The remaining domains operate on their own servers or are connected to a whole list of services.

Top 10 mail services looks like this:
1. Yandex.Mail - 117 thousand domains
2. Spaceweb - 102 thousand domains
3. GMail - 101 thousand domains
4. Timeweb - 85 thousand domains
5. RuCenter - 76 thousand domains
6. Masterhost - 51 thousand domains
7. 1Gb - 43 thousand domains
8. Hosting Center - 42 thousand domains
9. Infobox - 42 thousand domains
10. Majordomo - 38 thousand domains
It can be concluded that both specialized e-mail services and hosting providers are popular in RuNet. There is also a significant growth potential for mail services for the domain, as half of the domain owners use their own mail servers.
