Social networks as an environmental phenomenon
Many people think ecology is simply the state of the environment. This is not true. Ecology is the science of the interaction of communities of living organisms with the environment, and with each other, and individuals within a separate community.
Our society is a population of Homo Sapiens, no more, no less.
So here. The development of technology, the informatization of society, the emergence of personal (personal) communications, players, computers led to the fact that people have become more divided. Each individual is personalized to such an extent that it is essentially a unique phenomenon. Even within individual social groups (whether they are emo teenagers or cadets of the Airborne Forces), each is different from each other in many ways, i.e. He can listen to his music in the player, arrange the desktop on his home computer in his own way, or set his own melodies to ring the cell phone. In terms of information availability, an individual can read any books he likes, watch any films, etc. Thus, he develops his own type of thinking, views on life.
People have become more independent and more closed, separated from the rest of society. Social groups, say, by interests, did not cease to form, but there were more of them and they became smaller in number.
Humanity (human society) as a system has the property of fractality, i.e. roughly speaking, a separate small part is as complex as the whole. If our beloved Habrahabr acts as a homeostat (a system striving for balance), then a society of people also seeks to balance the resulting preves. It is this, I believe, through social networks, which are designed to at least consolidate our society.

Naturally, many will say simply: “nonsense!” However, we must bear in mind that the mechanisms of regulation of our society are manifested at the level of the subconscious and instincts, and sometimes difficult to understand, especially at first glance.
