Not desktop versus network, but desktop plus network
Incumbent Bill Gates Ray Ozzie argues that the new strategy of Microsoft is not in copying the success of the King of the Google Network. MSFT is going to bypass the competitor by presenting a combination of desktop software and network services for it. The model of a purely desktop or purely network application is flawed: in the case of only network software, the user must be constantly online, for example, to simply edit the text. Microsoft, on the other hand, offers something in between: not a “soft service” (like Google Docs, for example), but a “soft plus service” (for example, Live Office from MSFT). The vast majority of products in the new Windows Live line try to implement this approach.
