Exactly one year later, we fulfill our promise and publish the 2nd part of our post about the salaries of system administrators (see part one ). Moreover, this time we decided to combine data on the salaries of windows and * nix administrators into one post.

Collection of salary information from Job Portals. We collect data on salaries indicated in vacancies and resumes and put them in our job directory according to the name of the vacancy / resume. If the title of the vacancy / resume is too general or inaccurate (for example: "System Administrator"), then after studying the description of the vacancy / resume we select it for a specific position on the basis of expert evaluation.
In this post we use only the data obtained from the vacancies .
In addition to the study of data on wages, which are listed on the Job portals, in St. Petersburg and Moscow, we conduct a survey of companies once a year. This is a large study in which we study not only real wages in the labor market, but components of the social package, various types of compensation, staff turnover, costs, providers and much more.
We invite IT companies in Moscow and St. Petersburg to join our research! The preliminary start date of the “survey of companies” is November 3, 2012. For participation in this study, please contact me (Denis Kalanov). More details in the presentation .

90 percentile - statistical maximum
The Nth (10th, 50th, 90th) percentile is a value per 1 / n distance from the beginning of an ordered variational series. That is, the n-th percentile shows that n% of the values ​​of the ranked series have values ​​less than the n-th percentile, and (100-n)% - large.
For this distribution, we took the most popular vacancy "Windows System Administrator" and have traditionally built the following graph by median.
We take Moscow as the reference city and build a schedule of salary distribution by job according to the median. Actually, this graph confirms the rumors that administrators of * nix systems get more than windows.
