New Brief: Samsung Launches EMMC 128GB Memory Card for Mass Production

On September 18, at the Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum, the company announced the launch of the mass production of new 128 GB embedded multimedia cards EMMC Pro Class 1500. They were developed in August 2011, a month after the start of EMMC Pro shipments of 16, 32 and 64 GB , which allowed then quickly fill the market of mobile devices with a wide range of compact memory cards.

Thanks to the new EMMC, mobile phones and tablet PCs can store up to 15 Full HD video files, each weighing an average of 8 GB. In addition, new EMMC chips fit into a very thin (12x16 mm) FBGA package, which is very important for modern mobile designs - more subtle and elegant. Also, the new EMMC provides the highest performance today in terms of density and performance level of embedded memory chips.

EMMC Pro reads data at speeds up to 140 megabytes per second and demonstrates sequential write speeds of up to 50 MB / s, which is five times faster than external Class-10 memory cards. For arbitrary read / write, memory can handle up to 3500/1500 IOPS (input and output operations per second, respectively).

The ultra-fast storage device uses a 64-gigabit NAND array with a Toggle DDR 2.0 interface, based on the latest 20-nanometer process technology. Fully-controlled NAND chips come with their own high-performance controller and intelligent “flash management” firmware.

Samsung EMMC Pro Class 1500 supports the JEDEC EMMC v4.5 specification, which standardizes a number of features to improve device performance, efficiency, security, and reliability. By launching a new line of memory cards in mass production, the company expects that the share of NAND Flash solutions on the mobile market will grow even faster.
