Ukrainians will receive electronic passports

Today, the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada approved a law according to which all biometric data will be entered into the unified state register. The passport of the citizen of Ukraine and the passport will be equipped with electronic contactless carrier


The passport of a citizen of Ukraine will be a plastic card, issued for a period of 10 years (regardless of age, from birth) and contain detailed information about the owner, even a sample of the signature and appearance of the person. The international passport will be a 32-page book, also with electronic media.

Approval of the law is one of the steps to fulfill the EU requirements for the implementation of a visa-free regime.

This news is good news. I recall that in Ukraine, in addition to electronic passports, free electronic keys were introduced in the summer to sign reports to the tax and pension fund (the practice of electronic signatures has been around for a long time, just in summer the government financed free reporting software, buying a ready-made solution, and key collection)

When and how the process of issuing will begin, I have not found it anywhere. To be honest - I knew that the relevant bill was put forward as early as May of this year, but I did not expect it to go that fast.

UPD: I do not understand why the news scares some, especially in this community. I think the news is quite cheerful and positive. At a minimum, the need for every sneeze xerit passport and TIN and distort the "copy is correct" only in order for someone from this piece of paper somewhere somewhere somewhere to drive in my data (for example, in a bank, about government agencies generally keep quiet), and then I don’t know how to dispose of it, - with time, I hope, will disappear. Not all of us in the last century to sit with tons of waste paper and ballpoint pens.
