Together with CMS Magazine, we completed the
first stage of collecting information on managing companies by web developers. 28 studios took part in the survey, and we already have some data.
We received most of the answers on Habrahabr - it is not surprising that the audience showed more interest in the technical side of the matter, shifting the emphasis from management to development. We obey the opinions of the participants.

')
Almost all the participants gracefully went around the essence of the question: to talk about the structure of the company's management and instead immediately went on to list the specific technical means used in the work. But this did not prevent us from correcting our list of business processes.
What are we asked to change?
They pointed out to us the most important process that we missed: work with company personnel.
Judging by the answers, the audience is interested not only in management tools, but also in specific application tools: design tools, storage of passwords and source codes, creating backups, and file sharing.
Companies working on flexible methodologies asked to do for them a separate item: managing the Agile process.
Nobody wanted to talk about informal communication within the company, as well as about interaction with contractors. But we decided to leave these items in the survey.
We also confused everyone a little with external and internal communications: in the second version, we all simplified and left only “Means of communication”.
And now a little specifics.
Now we know that:
- Almost all companies pay a lot of attention to sales and actively use CRM.
- Very few use combined ERP, the majority of respondents choose individual programs and services that perform narrow tasks.
- Redmine, Git and Mercurial are the absolute leaders of the references. Opensource taxis!
- The most universal solution was Redmine. Many companies use it to manage three or more processes from our list.
- Among commercial project management systems, Megaplan and Basecamp are often called.
- And of course, Google should be very pleased that almost all sites for which there are no specialized tools are managed using Google.Docs.
