Flock 1.0 beta released

The beta version of Flock 1.0, which was first introduced at TechCrunch 40, can finally be downloaded by anyone, although it is not available on the home page.

Flock is a Firefox-based browser equipped with add-on modules for interacting with various social networks. The new version of Flock is very different from the previous one, which, so to speak, was the usual Firefox with a couple of plug-ins.

Here are the main innovations:

Side panel

One of the most important new features is the sidebar that interacts with social networks. Flock now supports out-of-the-box YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Flickr (better than in the previous version). Facebook in the sidebar has the same interface as in the version of the site for the iPhone, but in addition it has more functionality, including uploading photos to Facebook. The Twitter sidebar in the sidebar is similar to the TwitBin add-on for Firefox, but again it has better functionality.

Media panel

Previously, Flock already had a media panel, but then it only worked with Flickr; Now Facebook support has been added, now you can drag and drop files there.

Web notebook

Now the browser has a function “web-notebook” or “network clipboard”, which allows dragging websites, text or images into the sidebar. The idea is that in the future these files / information can be used on other sites.

Blogging client

The blog client seems to be the highlight of Flock, but in version 1.0 it is clearly bad. In fact, this is a regular blogging client ... not supporting image uploads. It seems to me that this big minus covers many advantages. It remains to hope that in future versions such an annoying error will be corrected.

Other features

Flock allows you to read RSS feeds right in your browser window. The media panel also allows you to view videos from YouTube.
