BlackBerry Jam Americas: BlackBerry 10 Preview

The BlackBerry Jam Americas conference began in the American city of San Jose. And, of course, all the attention is on the upcoming BlackBerry 10 operating system, which is designed to help Research In Motion if you do not regain its previous position in the smartphone market, then at least compete well with the “kings of the market” of Android and iOS, as well as those with serious intent windows phone.

So, what did Research In Motion show on day one?

Blackberry flow

First of all, this is the new concept of the interface “Flow”, which RIM calls, as much as, “the new concept of interaction with touch devices”:

As you can see, most of the actions are carried out with the help of sliding gestures, and the screen frame is actively involved in them - the technique that has proven itself well on the PlayBook (for example, I now completely unconsciously try to make a gesture from the bottom up to minimize the current application on any tablet which I have to interact with).

Special attention was paid to the BlackBerry Hub - a single space for all possible messages, regardless of their source. Those. you do not need to bother for a second in order to contact this or that person or find any message - all communication channels are collected in one place: email, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, BBM, SMS, and even calls and messages on answering machine. The transition to the Hub is also carried out with the help of a gesture, and it is available at any time, no matter what you do in this second.

I liked the night mode very much: top-down svayp “just as you close the curtains at the end of the day” (apparently, not the usual ones that we are used to, but rolling out from the roll).

Camera

About this, I am not afraid of this word, terrific technology (licensed from Scalado) has already been written on Habré, but repetition is the mother of stuttering teachings, besides, someone could have missed. The bottom line is that when photographing, in fact, several pictures are taken with a very small interval, after which you can manually select the desired time point (for example, when no one blinks). But even if there is no such moment, then “rewind in time” can be done for each person separately (people, of course, are automatically recognized), and as a result you can put together a photo of the best expressions of each person individually, even if they all happened at different times of time. But why am I saying everything - see for yourself:

Browser

The browser on the BlackBerry PlayBook is quite objectively one of the best mobile browsers (with full Flash support). RIM decided not to stop there ( UPD: at the moment the browser in BB10 alpha has the best HTML5 support among all browsers, including desktop ones ), improving the performance even more, plus organically adding current developments to the concept of Flow mentioned above: tabs, bookmarks, history - all this is available by a sliding gesture to the right. Also, the browser, like the BlackBerry Hub, is tightly integrated with social. networks and other network services: right from the menu you can share the current page on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and so on (even somehow send to DropBox - save the current page, or what?):

BlackBerry Messenger (BBM)

Well it is, for a snack, for those who are interested. Actually, the very news about him is that he will definitely be on BlackBerry 10 as well (very many people expressed huge doubts). Video (operator - shoot :)), which shows the interface and some features:

By the way, the devices you see are again not what new smartphones will look like. This is the second iteration of the Dev Alpha devices that have been distributed to developers since May of this year - Dev Alpha B.

UPD: a slightly more detailed overview of the interface:

UPD2: video with full keynote (thanks for the link zvic ). Long (40 minutes), but definitely worth watching:
